Mario Blecich was born June 24th 1939 in Rijeka, (today) Croatia. The consequences of a turbulent history of this very attractive city on the Adriatic see left an indelible imprint on the entire life and on creation of the artist.
As a little boy, together with his family he left his homeland toward Italy, in search for a more prosperous future, where he started his artistic studies.
In 1965 he emigrated to U.S.A. where, guided by Prof. Marco Nobili and under the strong influence of the abstract water-colourist Loise Nobili, he graduated from “Centre for Creative Studies – College of Art and Design”, Detroit, Michigan.
After successfully exhibiting (Detroit, Chicago, Ann Arbor), teaching life drawing and working as the architectural designer in U.S.A. in 1975 he returned to Italy where he continued his artistic carrier, exhibiting oils, water colours and drawings in various European countries.
During the last 10 years the creative inspiration of Mario Blecich was captured by the magics of old tree roots and trunks, which he sculptures and successfully amalgams the forms offered by nature in proper life experiences, through a strong and sensible convergence of nature with arts and sciences.
“The composition, drawing and intent are not subordinated to the aesthetics, but fused in it. It doesn’t matter if the artist designs, analyses, expresses real or imaginary elements, still his works are inseparable from his love for nature and life. Technique, aesthetics and psychology are expressed without boundaries of any particular school, style or form, in his very personal mood of high lyricism” (Prof. Dino Cocci, Art Historian).
“Without question, in Mario’s sculptures the forms assume a very proper and determinant significance. By being developed after a rhythm which flows from inside toward the outside of figures, they confer a continuous and excited dialog with a real life experience”, Angelo Mistrangelo, Art Critics.
“If people observe my works and succeed to just acknowledge the magic and beauty of a real life’s thrilling in one another, than I’ve done my job”, Mario Blecich.
